Cannon Township, Michigan

Cannon Township is a great place to live, work and do business.

Code Enforcement

The legislative body of a municipality enacts ordinances to protect the health, safety and welfare particular to the needs of the residents in their community. The code enforcement department is charged with the responsibility of enforcing those ordinances much like a police officer who is sworn to uphold the laws of their state. The code enforcement department should be highly regarded in communities and not taken lightly as they can have a major impact on community image. Preventing blight and deteriorating home conditions in older communities and in newer communities working to address concerns with new construction and land use.

When the code enforcement officer visits a property he is there to educate the owner on ordinance standards and to request compliance with those standards. The only goal is ordinance compliance and the officer appreciates the cooperation of property owners that bring their property into compliance with these standards at the officer's request.

All complaints are treated and investigated with equal respect. The code enforcement officer will show fairness but consistency in investigating each ordinance violation.
