Once you receive this notice you have a short turnaround time to make a decision whether you would like to speak to the Assessor about the notice. The State of Michigan recommends that local Assessing Offices review 20% of the parcels each year. This is to ensure a more accurate appraisal.
Yes. The Assessor visits all of the sites that have been issued a building permit. The valuation for the upcoming year’s assessment is based on how the property looks on December 31st. A new house that is partially completed will have an assessment that reflects partial construction. The Assessor’s Office will then return the following year.
